REMEMBER REMEMBER...

The 5th of November is bonfire night here in the UK and that means fireworks ! Which means long exposures and a tripod.

These shots were taken the other year at Heaton Park. It may have been cold. It may have been muddy but it was fun ! Here's the thing, people see a guy with a camera on a tripod they think you know what's going on. At least six people asked me what time the display was meant to start. I was as clueless as they were. I didn't even know which direction to point the camera in.

All I could do was set up the camera and wait.
Tripod -check ! Camera - check ! Bulb mode - Check ! (found in your cameras menu)
Cable release - check ! To avoid any camera shake.
Manual focus - check ! In such poor light the cameras auto focus has no chance of focusing on anything. It just panics and refuses to let you actually take a picture. So the only solution is to go manual focus and then lock it in.

When I saw a firework launch I pressed the cable release to open the shutter and counted to 4 then I let go. Some time it was 3 secs. All shots were at 200 iso. You just have to keep shooting. Some you get, some you miss. Different fire works go off at different altitudes.
Editing was really simple. No noise reduction just a slight increase to the blacks and warm up the white balance to bring out the colours. Job done !
